Dr. Vandana Kumar is a Diplomate in Oral and Maxillofacial radiology and currently holds a position of Associate Professor in the division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at the Department of Oncology and Diagnostic Sciences at University of Maryland (UMSOD), Baltimore, MD. She earned her MS in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from UNC Chapel Hill and shortly after earned her diplomat status from The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. She has served at University of Missouri Kansas City school of dentistry in the Department of Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Oral Radiology for 12 years before joining her present position at UMSOD.
Dr. Kumar is also an internationally qualified specialist who received her training in Dentistry and master’s in Operative Dentistry and Endodontics from India, later she received her DDS from UMKC School of Dentistry. Dr. Kumar is an elected officer at the executive council of American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and currently serving as Councilor of Education Affairs. She is also a chair and member of various other committees of AAOMR. She is the director elect for ABOMR.
She has co-authored the position paper published jointly by AAE and AAOMR and a recent publication on Guidelines for oral and maxillofacial imaging: COVID-19 considerations. She has numerous articles; research abstracts to her credit and serves as the adhoc reviewer to journal of DMFR, JDE and Angle Orthodont. She has also authored chapters in books. Dr. Kumar has made various presentations nationally and internationally. She is the outgoing president of the special section of oral and maxillofacial radiology of ADEA. Her current interest and area of research are in application of CBCT in various disciplines of dentistry and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled clinical decision support systems (CDSSs).
